Jacqui Magno Performs at Palacio de Maynila, July 26

It was a privilege for me to join Ms.Jacqui Magno over lunch at Martinilly's for an "intimate" interview about her upcoming birthday concert, "Moonlight and Love Songs," which will hold center stage on July 26, 2014 at the Palacio de Maynila Tent along Roxas Blvd. Malate.  Show starts at 8 PM.

Ms. Magno, the Philippines' Queen of Jazz, is herself an institution in the music industry since the mid-70's. Starting with the Genesis Band and then making waves with the Circus Band, and many performances and recognition here and abroad, Ms. Jacqui Magno is timeless.

But beyond her music, which is already a given, her positive attitude and vibrant energy in life is truly inspiring. When asked how different it is to be performing for today's audience, she replies "I feel it is special because I can express myself more now.  Singing jazz brings out my creativity and is a bursting experience."

To keep in top shape on and off stage, Ms. Magno is quite active in exercising.  "Breathing properly plays a huge part in every performance, thus, at one time or the other, I do yoga, boxing, jogging and swimming."  True. Stamina is an essential aspect in everything that we do.  One cannot perform or work well when we do not have enough exercise.

When she was young, Ms. Magno never imagined herself to be a singer. "I always wanted to be a teacher." She has a huge interest in Humanities, Psychology and Sociology.  Somehow her childhood dreams did come true, as she later on became a voice coach for a number of prominent singers. Sharing one's talent and mentoring is a fulfillment in itself. For her, performing up to this day is a blessing and an experience she cherishes. Her vibrant and positive attitude not only blooms, but attracts.

On a moonlit night, capture Ms. Jacqui Magno as she sings love songs and inspirational songs, together with special guests, violinist Mr. John Lesaca and world-class artist Rannie Raymundo.  It will be a great experience for the audience to witness her performing with the Asosasyon ng Musikang Pilipino (A.M.P.) Big Band Orchestra, under the musical direction by no less than award-winning Mr. Mel Villena. The show is produced by JuAnna Banana Productions, Inc.

Beyond celebrating her birthday, it is a thanksgiving concert, celebrating love and timeless passion.
