Read all about it...  or rather.. listen, watch, dance and sing with the vibrant cast of Newsies The Broadway Musical, right here in Manila.

Globe LIVE, in partnership with 9Works Theatrical, presents Disney's Newsies, a 2012 Tony Award winning musical. Globe LIVE takes pride in being the first company in the Philippines to be given the rights to locally produce Disney's Newsies.

Known for its commitment in creating unforgettable experiences for its customers, whether online or on-ground, Globe continues to deliver world-class entertainment through its production arm, Globe LIVE.  Among those brought here by the company were award-winning musicals such as American Idiot and A Christmas Carol.  To continue its exceptional streak in the performing arts, Globe is strengthening its partnership with Disney through the Broadway musical, Newsies.

Newsies is loosely based on the real-life 1899 newsboy strike in New York City, where a group of boys initiated a strike, hoping to improve how the child labor force of newspaper hawkers were compensated. Newsies was first released as a film in 1992, starring Christian Bale as Jack Kelly, the leader of the strike. It was then adapted for the stage in 2011, and originally produced on Broadway by Disney Theatrical Productions the following year. It gained eight nominations in the prestigious Tony Awards, winning Best Choreography, and Best Original Score.

To be included in the Manila cast demands high levels of energy and talent.  To make it more exciting, Globe LIVE created Training Ground, a series of sessions where the chosen Newsies actors undergo rigid training in voice, dance and acting.

It is note-worthy to mention that only 21 cast members passed the auditions, out of 500 applicants. Fans of the film and musical can watch webisodes of Training Ground at http://go.globe.com.ph/newsies.html

"We need our actors to be more than triple-threats," said Joe Caliro, Globe LIVE CEO and Executive Producer. "Training Ground allows us to maximize their potential before going to actual rehearsals... this include voice, acting, gymnastics, and dance lessons in ballet, hip-hop, tap, and jazz." He adds, "There is so much talent in the Philippines, and with proper training, we can elevate their skills to be world-class."

With lyrics by Jack Feldman, music by Tony and Oscar winning composer Alan Menken, adapted from the book by Harvey Fierstein, the Manila edition of Newsies boasts a variety of talents led by Pinky Marquez, and stars Gian Magdangal, Jet Flores, Daniel Drillon, Tony Cortez, Luis Marcelo, Alex Diaz, Danielle Chopin, Greg Dulcie, Raymund Concepcion, Franz Imperial, Ariel Reonal, Joni Galeste, Melissa Bell, Ian Ocampo, Ronelson Yadao, Erick Arenas, Jourdan Bartolome, Chesko Rodrigues, Kendrick Ibasco, Anton Posadas, Clark dela Riva, Jon Abella, MC dela Cruz, Vyen Villanueva, and Jan Mayo.
